Signs Of Transmission Trouble In Your Car

Your car’s transmission is by far its most complicated component. With over 800 individual pieces, it is as intricate as it is necessary to the operation of your vehicle. But even with this complexity, the transmission isn’t a part of your vehicle that needs a ton of attention. So how can you tell if your transmission is in trouble? There are a few ways your car has of letting you know there is a problem.

Check Engine Light

A bad transmission is far from the only thing that can activate a check engine light, but it is certainly one of the causes for activation. Coupled with other problems mentioned in this blog, an activated check engine light is among the warnings that your transmission is having issues.

Slipping Or Grinding

When you are pressing your gas pedal to gain speed in your vehicle, your transmission is working its hardest to change gears. During this acceleration is the time when transmission troubles will show themselves. If you feel or hear a grinding noise when your gears change, or worse, you feel the gears slip slightly or all the way out of place, then your transmission needs some immediate attention.

Red Or Brown Fluid

Have you noticed pools or red or brown fluid underneath your vehicle, say, like in your garage? This is transmission fluid, and it is not meant to leak. So if you see it, your transmission is in peril. Don’t ignore this one!
